Ferro Fosfolipidico Lipofer™ is a dietary supplement that provides 30 mg per daily dose of LIPOFER™ microencapsulated iron. Iron contributes to normal formation of red blood cells and hemoglobin, and to the normal transport of oxygen in the body. The product is enriched with vitamin C, which enhances iron absorption.

Hemoglobin is a protein that circulates in the blood, and its primary role is to transport oxygen from the lungs to the various tissues of the body. It is also a fundamental component of red blood cells.
A low level of hemoglobin means less oxygen is delivered to the tissues, resulting in fatigue and weakness, as oxygen is essential for energy production. Often, those with low hemoglobin also have reduced myoglobin levels, the protein responsible for delivering oxygen specifically to the muscles, including the heart—further contributing to feelings of tiredness and breathlessness.
Poor oxygenation leads to peripheral vasoconstriction, reducing blood flow to the extremities (especially hands and feet), in an effort to preserve oxygen supply to vital organs. This is why people with anemia tend to feel the cold more intensely.
Additionally, hemoglobin is responsible for the bright red color of blood and tissue. When levels are low, the skin may appear paler than usual.

Recent research has led to the development of iron supplements bound to phospholipids, such as our Ferro Fosfolipidico, which allows for more efficient absorption of this essential mineral and ensures excellent bioavailability.
It is important to note that ionic iron absorption occurs mainly in the duodenum and is mediated by specific carriers. Under normal conditions, only 15–20% of administered iron is absorbed, and even dietary iron has relatively low bioavailability.

The microencapsulation technology with natural phospholipids makes this iron form highly bioavailable, well-tolerated, and rapidly absorbed. The phospholipid shell protects the iron from gastric mucosa, avoiding the pro-oxidant effects of free iron. This phospholipid protection enables the mineral to pass safely through the acidic gastric environment and be absorbed across the entire small intestine, not just the duodenum.

Phospholipid-based delivery mimics the natural transport of fats in the body via chylomicrons, the lipoproteins responsible for transporting dietary fats from the intestine to tissues. When ingested, the phospholipid-bound iron in the intestinal lumen is absorbed directly by M cells (not enterocytes), which originate from the lymphatic system and are present throughout the small intestine. The liposome is then internalized by macrophages via endocytosis, and reaches the hepatocytes intact through the lymphatic system.

Inside hepatocytes, the phospholipid system is broken down by enzymes, making the LIPOFER™ iron available to the body, ensuring superior absorption and bioavailability compared to traditional iron salts long used in supplements.
