Creatine (from the Greek κρέας = meat) is an amino acid derivative naturally present in the body. Its concentration increases as muscle mass increases. It is found in foods of animal origin, but is also produced by the body’s liver, kidneys and pancreas. Once it has been synthesised or taken in through diet or supplementation, it is taken up by muscle tissue and stored in the muscles.
