SetriBol® Setria®

Yamamoto® Nutrition’s Setria® SetriBol is a dietary supplement that provides 250 mg per daily dose of Setria® L-Reduced Glutathione. Glutathione is a potent antioxidant molecule that plays a key role in protecting the body against oxidative stress and the action of free radicals and is able to protect the hepatocytes against toxic molecules that can cause liver damage.

Glutathione is a ubiquitous molecule, i.e. one that is present throughout our body, but that is particularly concentrated in the liver, where it protects liver cells against toxic molecules: in this case, Glutathione “binds” to and neutralises toxic metabolites. Reduced glutathione is in fact able to surrender its hydrogen (H+), which acts as an acceptor of electrons (e-) from reactive oxygen molecules, i.e. free radicals. At this point, having eliminated the danger caused by free radicals, glutathione can regain its antioxidant activity and return to its reduced form. Glutathione’s ability to continually regenerate itself is the reason why it is considered the most powerful antioxidant in the human body. The molecule’s biological functions support its clinical utility in several situations, foremost among them its ability to protect the liver against the action of toxic substances.

Why is the effect of Glutathione so important?

Twenty-four hours a day, seven days a week, free radicals are busy attacking our bodies at cell level. Scientists have discovered that this constant onslaught has detrimental effects on health and well-being in general, including the health and ageing of our tissues. Fighting the damage caused by free radicals seems to enable us to age better and live healthier lives, which is why it is important to ensure our bodies optimal levels of glutathione, a molecule capable of effectively counteracting oxidative stress.

How can Setria® SetriBol help your body fight free radicals?

Eating, exercising and even breathing are actions that can result in the formation of free radicals. Once formed, these molecules attack the body at cell level, stealing electrons from other molecules and triggering a chain reaction. SetriBol provides the body with reduced Glutathione, which binds to and neutralises free radicals.

Why is glutathione known as the ‘Master antioxidant’ or the ‘King of antioxidants’?

Glutathione not only neutralises free radicals, it is also capable of reactivating other antioxidant molecules, like vitamins C and E. Normally, once antioxidants (e.g. vitamin C and vitamin E) have done their job by inactivating free radicals, they become unstable radicals themselves. Glutathione helps to recycle these molecules, restoring their function and extending their ability to attack free radicals, which is why Glutathione is considered the ‘master‘ or ‘King‘ molecule of all the body’s antioxidants.

How does Setria® SetriBol help eliminate toxins?

Glutathione supports the function of the liver, kidneys, gastrointestinal tract and intestines, the body’s major detoxification pathways.

It acts on two different fronts:

1. It helps eliminate toxins, ingested chemicals and potential carcinogens that the body has already absorbed;
2. It intercepts and neutralises toxins in the gastrointestinal tract before they are absorbed.

Why can Setria® SetriBol also be useful for athletes?

Scientific research seems to suggest that Setria® glutathione facilitates Nitric Oxide (NO) production when combined with L-Citrulline and when used in endurance performance. **Setria® also appears to help maintain high NO levels, which may reduce fatigue and speed recovery.

Setria® SetriBol can therefore aid strength training by maintaining increased nitric oxide production after a training session.
