Our Advice: We recommend taking the product before or after a workout, depending on individual objectives. When taken before a workout, it will have an energy function and provide protection against skeletal muscle degradation; when used during or after a workout, it will counteract muscle catabolism, promoting growth while preserving tissues subjected to exertion.
Frequently Asked Questions:
- Should they be taken before or after a training session?
Taking BCAAs is a correct strategy both before and after a workout, as they are highly effective in both cases. They counteract the muscle catabolism that occurs after strenuous exercise and at the same time provide the muscle with plastic material. Our advice is therefore to divide intake between the pre- and post-workout periods. - I take branched-chain amino acids: is it right to add protein intake as well?
Most proteins of high biological value contain a full spectrum of essential amino acids, including all branched-chain amino acids. In situations such as low-calorie, high-protein diets, increased requirements or even sarcopenia, taking BCAAs can play a supporting role. Whether protein and amino acids should be taken together depends on the quality (biological value) of the protein and the total daily protein intake. If you are taking BCAAs but your protein requirements are not met, you can also take protein at the same time. - So which ratio should I opt for: 2:1:1, 4:1:1 or 8:1:1?
The answer to this question is not as obvious as it may seem. Several different variables, and in many cases the reason for using the supplement, must be taken into consideration. Below you will find some advice to help you choose.
BCAA 2:1:1 – Their main purpose is to provide energy support during long and intense training sessions and facilitate muscle recovery. They are therefore suitable for use both pre- and post-workout.
BCAA 4:1:1 – Reducing fatigue, supporting increased energy demands and recovery are the main benefits of taking this type of BCAA. They are therefore best taken during or after a training session.
BCAA 8:1:1 – Do we need to maximise recovery after a workout? The high leucine content promotes this process while meeting the energy demands that arise at the end of a training session.
